Foster Process
Greyhounds need some time to make the transition from a racing life to life as a pet. Most greyhounds have not had the opportunity to live in a family/home environment as a pet and our Foster Carers help them make this transition. This transition usually takes 6-8 weeks.
If you volunteer as a Foster Carer we will first of all talk to you about your experience with caring for dogs. We will also ask you about your home and yard to ensure it is safe and suitable for a greyhound to live in. We will then match you with a dog. Once everyone is happy we will provide you with a dog to foster. Your job will be to simply care for the dog and introduce it to household items (mirrors, stairs etc) and household noises (children, TV, music, etc). We will also ask you to help the dog get used to neighbourhood sights and sounds by taking it on daily walks.
We will involve you in the rehoming process by asking you to take the dog to meet the potential adoptee family and answer any queries they may have about the dog and its behaviour.
